The Humble Beginning

Every great story starts with a small step. Ours began in August 2022.

Back then, it was just 8 students—two families who trusted us with their most precious people. One dojang. Two coaches. And a belief so simple it fit in the palm of our hand:

Every life is worth defending.

Yours. Your child’s. Your partner’s. Your dreams. Your dignity.

We didn’t start Damek to build an empire. We started it because we believe that having the skills to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your ideas isn’t a luxury. It’s not negotiable. It’s a birthright.

The Roots Grow Deep

Today, when you walk into Damek, you walk into something rare.

We have grown to three dojangs of our own. We now stand seven coaches strong—each one carrying not just technique in their hands, but philosophy in their hearts.

But here is what makes us different: We don’t stay in our comfort zone.

We believe a philosophy untested is just a theory. So we step onto the mats of other dojangs. We stand across from other fighters. We ask the hard question: Is what we teach truly working?

The answer, so far, has humbled and thrilled us.

The Medals That Matter

As we closed the door on 2025, we counted not just years, but moments.

15 tournaments. 173 medals out of a possible 220.

But numbers don’t tell the whole story. Let me tell you about the faces behind them.

We have raised 3 African champions. A young girl and boys who now wear the green-and-white of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at African and World Taekwondo events.

These students had no idea what Taekwondo was when they started with us in 2023.

Think about that. In just two years, they went from absolute rookies—people who didn’t know how to tie a belt—to elite athletes representing their nation on the global stage.

That is not just training. That is transformation at the cellular level.

The Adults Who Defy Time

But champions aren’t just young. Some of our most inspiring warriors are in their 40s, 50s, and even 60s.

Walk into our adult class and you will witness something almost magical. Bodies that believed they were slowing down, discovering they can still fly. Men and women who thought their best years were behind them, finding out their best years are right now.

We don’t just teach adults to kick. We teach them to remember: You are still capable of magnificent things.

Certified Coaches

Excellence is non-negotiable. Every coach on the Damek mat holds recognized certifications, with decades of combined experience and continuous training in both martial arts and athlete safety.

Meet the Founder: Bunmi Olaniyan

I’m Bunmi Olaniyan, founder of Damek Taekwondo Club and a student of the mat for over 21 years.

I’ve spent 183,960 hours training, teaching, and learning—because Taekwondo never stops teaching. Along the way, I’ve guided 4,200+ students, shaped 53 black belts, and raised 3 African champions from absolute beginners in just two years.

As a former national athlete who spent half a decade in the top 1% of Nigerian Taekwondo, I’ve won 13 national medals and 3 international medals. Today, I pour that experience into my students.

I hold a international third-degree black belt (Kukkiwon) and a World Taekwondo Level II coaching certification. I am also certified by the Nigerian Olympic Commitee.

I’ve trained students from Nigeria to Korea, Europe to the US. I’ve been trusted by the Korean Cultural Center in Nigeria to teach Taekwondo in all its forms . And I’ve written books to help the next generation learn with structure and heart.

But what matters most is this: I see you. I believe in you. And I will walk with you.
